Adult Group Tennis Lessons — All Levels Welcome
Small-group coaching for adults who want to learn, improve, and play consistently in a structured, friendly environment.
Whether you’ve never held a racquet, stepped away from the game years ago and want to return, or you’re a regular player looking to develop your technique, there is a session designed for you.
Sessions are 60 minutes long and are led by a qualified Tennis Australia coach. Groups are kept small so that your coach can give you real, individual attention — watching your technique, correcting your movement, and giving you specific feedback each session rather than running general drills from a distance.
This program suits adults who want to:
- Learn tennis in a welcoming, non-intimidating setting without prior experience
- Meet other people in the North Sydney, Crows Nest, Kirribilli, and Neutral Bay area who enjoy sport
- Improve their technique with structured coaching rather than just hitting around
- Find a regular weekly activity that is both physically active and genuinely social
You don’t need to own a racquet. You don’t need a partner. And there’s no fitness level you need to reach before you start.
What Is Adult Group Tennis — and Who Is It For?
Adult Group Tennis is a coached program where a small number of adults share court time under the guidance of a qualified Tennis Australia coach. It sits between private lessons (just you and a coach) and casual social play , you get structured coaching and real skill development, in a group setting that is more affordable and more social than individual sessions.
At Ridge Street Tennis Centre, each session runs for 60 minutes. Your coach covers all strokes, individual technique corrections, court movement, and singles and doubles tactics relevant to your level. Sessions are structured and repeatable — meaning you can return each week and build on what you did the week before, rather than starting from scratch every time.
It is designed for adults who are:
- Complete beginners who want a proper introduction to the sport
- Returning players who played socially or at school and want to get back on court
- Intermediate players who want to play more consistently and understand the game better
- Adults looking for a regular activity that combines exercise, skill development, and social connection
Beginner (60 minutes) For adults who are new to tennis or returning after a significant break. The focus is on the fundamentals: racquet grip, court positioning, making consistent contact with the ball, and basic serving. The emphasis is on building confidence at a pace that suits the group.
📅 Monday @ 6:00pm · Thursday @ 6:00pm
Intermediate (60 minutes) For adults who can sustain a rally and are ready to develop consistency, movement, and court tactics.
📅 Monday @ 7:00pm · Thursday @ 7:00pm

What Our Players Say
Greatly improved now that there is less sand on the courts. The bounce is now more consistent. The fences are a little too close to the baselines — deep lobs can be hard to return.
My local tennis court. Gets a bit sandy from time to time but thoroughly enjoy playing here, tennis on the weekends or one of Urban Rec's social sports like multisport or street soccer.
Competitions are run by Greg. He's a long time committed staff. Good lights. Great competitive tennis and good atmosphere. Soft base. Balls don't bounce very high.
Why Adult Group Tennis at North Sydney Tennis & Fitness Works
Small groups mean real, individual feedback. Groups are kept deliberately small so that your coach can observe your technique, correct your grip, and give you specific observations every session — not just run general drills from a distance. This is the difference between group coaching and casual court hire.
Levels are kept separate, so you are always in the right group. Beginner sessions are genuinely designed for beginners. You won’t be out-paced by players who have been competing for years. Intermediate sessions challenge players who already have a foundation. The schedule is structured so you can find your level and develop at your own pace.
It builds into a real community. Many adults who start in the beginner group go on to join social tennis, enter the Monday-to-Thursday night competition, or continue into private coaching. There’s always a natural next step — and familiar faces along the way. This is a consistent weekly program, not a drop-in class.
Your first session is free. New players receive a free introductory session. There’s no obligation to commit to anything before you’ve experienced the coaching, the group, and the facility. Try it first — then decide.
The courts are unlike any others in Sydney. Ridge Street Tennis Centre sits on the second level of a multi-storey car park near North Sydney station, with sand-based astroturf courts that offer a genuinely distinctive playing experience. It’s a compact, welcoming facility with qualified coaches, a gym on-site, and a community atmosphere that’s difficult to replicate elsewhere in the inner north.

How to Be Part of Our Adult Group Tennis Program
Getting started is straightforward. Here is what the process looks like from your first enquiry to your first session on court.
Review the two levels above — Beginner or Intermediate — and identify where you fit. If you are genuinely unsure, call us first and we will give you a straight recommendation based on your background.
Both levels run on Monday and Thursday evenings. Most players settle into one consistent weekly session, which is where steady, visible improvement tends to happen.
New players receive a free introductory session. Contact us by phone or email to arrange it before your first booking — it’s the simplest way to see whether the group and the facility are the right fit for you, with no obligation.
Single casual sessions and packs can be booked online. For direct debit options or any questions before you book, call (02) 9929 7172 or reach us through the contact form.
Arrive a few minutes before your session. Wear comfortable athletic clothing and flat-soled shoes — court shoes are ideal over time, but standard runners are fine to start with. Let us know ahead of time if you need a racquet and we will sort one out for your first session.
After a few sessions, your coach will give you a clear picture of where you are progressing and what to focus on next. The Monday-to-Thursday evening competition and social tennis are natural next steps — more court time, with the same community.

Comfortable athletic clothing and flat-soled shoes. Dedicated court shoes are ideal over time, but standard runners are fine to start with. The courts at Ridge Street are sand-based astroturf, so shoes with a flat or fine-tread sole work best.
